I am running the NYC Marathon in two weeks. I want to meet my friends after the race somewhere, and then go have lunch to celebrate my finishing, with a few drinks. What's a good restaurant near the end of the NYC Marathon? What's a good place to go after the NYC Marathon?
A lot depends on where you are staying or where you live. Don't focus on finding a "hot" restaurant tnat is "fit for foodies" - find a place that is decent enough and works logistically. After the marathon, you'll be in no shape to walk extensively or climb or go down stairs, and if you have a large group, you don't want to have to work to keep it together among the throngs near Central Park. So plan to walk a reasonable distance - say a half mile - to a place, or hop on the subway a few stops and find a place away from the park.
In the latter category, I'd suggest going down to the Penn Station area. You can catch the C train at 72nd and Central Park West - right where you exit the park - and then take it down to 33rd and 8th. From there, it's an easy walk to Tir Na Nog, one of the best Irish pubs in Manhattan. There are many other choices, too. I was at Mustang Harry's, at 30th and 7th, the other day and they had a sign saying they would be offering special pre-race and post-race meals for marathoners that met the nutritional guidelines of experts. There are many other choices in that vicinity that tend to have plenty of room. What's a good place to go after the NYC Marathon?
I hope you shower first.
