I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?

Hey, I'm moving to Manhattan in a week and will be staying in mid-town west. I've been a couple times before but just on short trips and have always had tour guides. I have a friend coming in with me for the first week and she has never been to NYC before so I was looking for some pointers on things to check out. We're obviously planning on the statue of liberty and the empire state building but also think it would be cool to do some different things- I'm looking for some suggestions for restaurants, things to do at night, just anything really. Maybe some things that a tourist normally wouldn't find/know about?

One last thing, we are on budgets so if there are tips for stuff that wouldn't be too expensive, that would be awesome. Thanks!I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?

Take in some culture at the museums!

Visit the Met, the Guggenheim, Museum of Natural History, or MOMA, the Frick, and El Museo del Barrio. Most of our museums have only optional donations as entry fees, I believe.

Hope this helps :)
You should definitely go to the Met... and the Staten Island Ferry is nice. Take a walk around Central Park. Another good museum on the "museum mile" is the Guggenheim, which is nice, but pricey. Also, even if you're not religious, the cathedrals there are worth a visit.I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?
Purchase a week pass for the public transport. You may use this on the subway and the bus system, above ground, so that you can SEE the city.

Be sure to take in the many museums which are available at little cost or donation and have great shops inside as well as places to eat. Many of the museums surround Central Park which is full of free fun, Strawberry Fields, Carousel, Zoo, Concerts.

Be sure to go to Mulberry Street in the old Italian district and eat outside at a cafe which is very inexpensive and has great food and bakeries.

Check out Wall Street, be sure and visit Grand Central Terminal which usually has a free display/ movie and lots of action as the trains come in and out.

Go visit the Intrepid aircraft carrier for a cool experience.

Don't forget to ride the Staten Island Ferry.... it is free !!!!

Way cool at night time as you sail right past Lady Liberty all lit up in her glory.

Shopping? Go to Barney's the most expensive store and you will be blown away at the prices and if you keep a keen eye.... you will see celebrity's there if that is of interest to you.

Have fun.... the City that never sleeps
The metro will take you every where. I was so excited in the M%26amp;M store.........................I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?
Hit this uptown tour and get off and on to see all the museums on Museum mile in the upper east side.

NYC is great! You should really come and visit it. I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!
here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

we went to NY for a week.

we had a blast!!!

you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)

there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)

you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^

if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi

also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.

don't miss to go inside.

it's wonderful!!!

we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)

for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.

http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/livi鈥?/a>

you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)

we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.

To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.

http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/labo鈥?/a>

we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)

then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)

if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :p

DON'T MISS eating at PARADOU!!!

it's a MUST!!!

trust me on this!

you also gotta watch a broadway show! definitely!

there's WICKED and SPAMALOT :)
