Question about NYC dinning?

My family and I (Mom, Dad, Brother, and Myself) are visiting the city for a week in October and I'm the only person in the family who's visited before, but it's been about 3 years since I was last there and I was just a guest (I didn't plan anything). This time I'm the one hosting/planning the trip but the only thing I'm having problems with is where to eat for dinner. I don't want to take them to typical touristy restaurants or chain restaurants that can be found anywhere (Applebee's, Olive Garden etc) I'd like to take them to some good authentic NYC restaurants. Can anybody suggest a few? My family has no particular preference for a certain kind of food and we're all over 18.Question about NYC dinning?
NYC is a great place to go! They have such a variety of different places for everyone. Here's what I suggest from my experience,

- Cafe Espanol

Great spanish food from Spain! It is very authentic and traditional. They have an outdoor eating area where you can watch the bustling street.

http://cafeespanol.com/home.html

- The Monkey Bar

They have seafood/ italian food. It is very modern and contemporary. If you like seafood definitely check this place out!

http://monkeybarnewyork.com/

- Daniel

Beautiful inside! Absolutely stunning. Very modern inside and a great place. Can become pretty crowded though so I suggest to make reservations. Very expensive though, and not a good place for kids, but a great place to go with a group or date. Very classy and formal, jackets required. If you are looking for something very formal and elegant then go here, it wont disappoint. Although, be prepared to spend some cash. French restaurant

- Locanda Verde

Very casual, affordable, laid back place to hang out and have a nice meal in. Italian restaurant. Pastries are to die for! Love this place for lunch! Great for going with friends or family.

http://locandaverdenyc.com/

- 21 Club

Famous American restaurant. The atmosphere is very warm and comfortable. Old school. Jackets are mandatory for men. I suggest the roast pork loin. Delicious food. I would really recommend it. It's not too pricey but is a great place for family. Dress code is formal, remember to follow it or you won't have such a great experience there.

Well there's just a few I absolutely love! I live in New Jersey and visit NY often. I hope you all have fun :)! They will love NYC.

Thank you! What are the BEST spots in NYC?
Shopping - 34th Street. Make sure to visit Manhattan Mall (32nd Street and 6th Avenue) as well. Also for cheap designer clothes, go to Century 21 Department store (located across the street from the World Trade Center site). Fifth Avenue (from the upper 40s to the upper 50s) also has a lot of stores (i.e. Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany's, etc.)

Restaraunts - There are so many to choose from. It really all depends on what type of food you (and your BF) like. :) Go to Citysearch.com. It includes reviews from customers and may help you.

Places to visit -

Go ice skating at one (or more) of the many rinks in Manhattan. There's one in Central Park, one in Bryant Park (free), one at the Rockefeller Center and one that should be opening soon (if it hasn't already) in the South Street Seaport.

Go see the X-mas trees at Lincoln Center and Rockefeller Center.

there's a very wide variety of choices in NYC, so it depends on what type of food.

for chinese food, theres Ollie's on 84th and Broadway (another on 68th and boradway). Also China Fun on 72nd and Columbus. these tend to not be fancy though.

for italian food, there's Coppola's West (and East, depending on if you're on the east or west side in manhattan)- the west side one is on 79th between broadway and amsterdam. there's also Sambuca (72nd between Columbus and Central Park West) and Bar Balud (63-64th street, right across from Lincoln Center)

there are also various diners all over the upper east and west sides, so if you're looking for places to eat lunch, these can be fulfilling :)

Times Square is a really awesome place to walk around (especially at night). the lights are very cool and its ALWAYS busy.

Central Park is a little more serene, and you can just walk around or go on a carriage ride (be careful, the horses are kind of smelly). There's Sheep's Meadow, which can be really nice for a picnic on a good day, and many ponds which are nice to walk around.

Also various zoos, the Bronx/Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (if you're looking for something with nature). More recreational spots would be Empire State Building (of course), Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Staten Island (which includes a ferry ride), Madison Square Garden (for basketball games or concerts), Chelsea Piers, Leisure Time Bowling, and movie theaters. Since it's near Christmas time there's a huge tree in Rockefeller Center which is lit up and very cool. you should also see a Broadway play if you have time!

shopping- 5th and Madison Avenues are nice but tend to be a expensive. There's Herald Square (largest Macy's in the world), Union Square, Queens Center Mall, Roosevelt Field Mall (very big but in Long Island), and the Manhattan Mall.

hope i helped, and enjoy NYC! :]What are the BEST spots in NYC?

I'm by no means a native New Yorker like the others who have answered, but I just got back from my first trip to NYC. One thing we did was the Top of the Rock tour! It was great. Beautiful views. I also recommend The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular! So many things to see and do! I see why they call it "the city that never sleeps"! I'm from a small town and was very surprised at how much more expensive food is there than where I live (even at the same chain restaurants)!

Have a wonderful trip.

Good Moroccan AND Israeli food in NYC?

Can somebody tell me where i can get some good/authentic moroccan food, as well as Israeli in NYC? I am coming to NYC next week for a few days and am in love with mediterranean food. I have eaten my fair share of spanish, italian, greek (in the city) and have yet to really eat a real good couscous or hoummos in NYC? (well, i have never really eaten any, so i can't really say 'have yet to ...')

I am looking for a combination of the two or simply two restaurants

ThanksGood Moroccan AND Israeli food in NYC?
Moroccan- Cafe Mogador on St. Mark's Place. I had their Bastilla (chicken wrapped in phyllo pastry) the other night, and it was great. Lots of spices.

Israeli- Triangles (on the Upper East Side). I've never been, but my neighbors love it.Good Moroccan AND Israeli food in NYC?
I think the first answerer meant Rectangles, which is located on First Avenue, between 74th and 75th Streets (212) 744-7470. It serves Moroccan and Israeli foods. I believe it has a bar.

Another restaurant is Galil, on Lexington between 84th and 85th (212) 439-9886. It serves Moroccan food. I highly recommend this restaurant.

If you plan on venturing out of Manhattan, the outer boroughs have places to offer, too:

Queens

Hapisgah 147-25 Union Turnpike (718) 380-4449 (serves Moroccan/Israeli and is also a steakhouse and has a full bar)

Grill Point 69-54 Main Street (718) 261-7077 (serves Israeli food and is mainly a takeout place with some tables for sitting)

Bronx

Riverdelight Deli %26amp; Middle East Restaurant

3534 Johnson Avenue, Riverdale (718) 543-4270 (for take out and sit down dining)

One thing to remember: Except for Rectangles, all of these restaurants are Glatt Kosher and will be closed to observe Shabbat from Friday evening through Saturday night. These would be great places to go to on Sunday and during the week.

I hope this helps. Have fun on your NYC Morrocan/Israeli culinary adventure!

Traditional/Small Mexican Restaurants in NYC?

I am looking for a small or rustic Mexican Restaurant to go to in NYC. I have a 2nd date on Tuesday of this week and on the first date she mentioned that she liked Mexican Food, but was more interested in smaller more home cooked food like you would find in Mexico. There are always a million upscale Restaurants in NYC to go to that have their own take on classic recipes but for right now I am just looking for an inexpensive place to get some fajitas and a little ambiance wouldn't be so bad either.

Thanks in advnaced for all your help.Traditional/Small Mexican Restaurants in NYC?
Try this classic Spanish Mexican Restaurant. It is in the village. I have enjoyed there cusine for many years.

  • Large Group Friendly Restaurants in NYC?

My 16th Birthday is a week away and I wanted to go to NYC for it. I invited 9 of my friends, and my parents and brother want to come along (so in total 12 people are coming). We originally were planning to go to Carmine's or Tony Di Napoli's but they said they couldn't reserve that many people for the date and time we wanted.

So I was wondering if anyone knew any good restaurants for a large group of people? I am open to all kinds of food, but I want to stay away from Chinese food if possible since I know one of my friends hates it.

Also, my family and I are vegetarians, so if we could, we would like an option to as what we can eat. But we aren't picky, so the restaurant does not have to be a vegetarian restaurant, as none of my friends are.

Lastly, location isn't a big deal as long as its by Times Square or Rockefeller Center. Anything in close proximity to that.

Thanks so much!Large Group Friendly Restaurants in NYC?

Spending money for NYC and Vegas Trip?

How much spending money would I need for a week in NYC and Vegas? Want to do ALL the main attractions, trips, loads of shopping and eat out in the fanciest of restaurants. Don't want to do anything on the cheap and wont be shopping in bargain basements. Any idea roughly how many dollars I will need for this week?Spending money for NYC and Vegas Trip?
A week split between 2 cities doesn't give you much time for sightseeing.

Bring as much money as you possibly can. NY is filled with nice restaurants, high-end stores, and there's endless entertainment. Las Vegas has temptation at every turn, and if you don't want to say no to anything you'll need to have deep pockets.Spending money for NYC and Vegas Trip?
Let me break it to you.... if you have to ask this question, you obviously can't afford it.

    NYC Restaurants??

Im going out for my b-day next week and I want to have a really nice dinner and have good drinks, It can be moderrate price but not superexpensive. Any ideas of a good restaurant with good cocktails?? I like any kind of food! Thanks!!NYC Restaurants??
I think an excellent mid-price restaurant in NY is Dos Caminos. They have excellent Mexican food, the fresh guacamole is to die for and they have excellent margharitas, tequila, etc.
Il Bastardo is a great place for Italian food.NYC Restaurants??
Personally I love Uno Chicago Grill. They have great drinks and good prices. There are several in your area. you can go online and find the one closest to you. I have always had fun at all the different uno's I have been to. Good Luck
I would suggest Tao. It is very exotic and fun and the drinks are great. Lots of people watching. You MUST get a reservation. You can get less expensive entrees if you want to spend more on drinks. I would also suggest you go to newyork.citysearch.com. They have a great restaurant section that can help you narrow things down (by price, neighborhood, etc). Don't go to some chain you can go anywhere. NYC has the best food in the world. Have fun!!NYC Restaurants??
My two favorite restaurants in NYC are Cafe Rafaela and Zen Palate.

Cafe Rafaela has great food and VERY reasonable prices. There are several locations in Manhattan but my favorite is in Chelsea. It has overstuffed chairs and a great ambience.

Zen Palate is a vegetarian restaurant and quite a bit more expensive (and classier), but the food is fantastic and the setting is really cool, too. I love their food.

I highly recommend either of these places.
A great restaurant that I go to for celebating is called City Hall, it's downtown in Tribeca. Absolutely beautiful and not that crowded.

Uptown a small, but wonderful bistro, named Aix, Broadway and 88th or so.

Also great on the Eastside is the Atlantic Grill, 77th and 3rd Ave. You need reservations for all. Only the Atlantic Grill is noisy, and it has more than just fish. Or if you like Mexican food, but not tacos, I'm talking fancy mexican, and great atmosphere, there is Rosa mexicana. There are three of them now, but I like the one across from Lincoln Center the best.
Sushi samba, Atlantic Grill and Jewel of India are really good, and have great atmosphere's without being too pretentious. Have fun!

    Affordable NYC restaurants.?

I am turning 19 in about 4 weeks. My friends and I want to go to a restaurant in NYC to eat. I have been searching around but I just can't seem to find the one I want, that isn't crazy expensive. Any suggestions?Affordable NYC restaurants.?
It's funny, I was going to suggest Carmine's as well. They have two locations (I prefer the Upper West Side one at 91st Street as opposed to the Times Square location). Beyond that, The Five Napkin Burger is a very cool and stylish place for late teens, and affordable -- get the 5 Napkin Burger, it's one of NYC'S best. Another place that everyone loves is Cafe Lalo on 83rd Street and Amsterdam Ave. It's famous for a Tom Hanks movie and is set up like a French Cafe. Great place.

All of these places are affordable and loved by teens. I have teen children and they agree!

    Have fun, and happy birthday!
I have a couple of ideas!

    1) Sweetiepie is a cute place to have a birthday lunch or dinner:

    http://www.sweetiepierestaurant.com/

    2) Amber is an Asian Fusion restaurant and they have multiple locations in different neighborhoods. They don't seem to have a website but here are their locations:

    3) Alice's Tea Cup also has a few locations. It's Alice-in-Wonderland themed:

    http://alicesteacup.com/

    4) If you love sushi definitely try Poke on 85th and 1st. really great sushi and pretty affordable.

Have a great birthday!!Affordable NYC restaurants.?
Tao, is a Japanese/chinese restaurant. It has family sized platters so you can share or get your own. They are very nice and affordable. There is also a Italian place that also has family sized plates. This one is my favorite out of the to. The name of the place is Carmines. On your birthday they will bring you a crazy big dessert for free.

In both of these places you can dress up really nice or moderately casual.

Hope you have a great time and a great birthday!
If you're going into Brooklyn, try Junior's on Flatbush Avenue. There's a subway stop on the next block.

Junior's has been there forever, and the food is an interesting fusion of NYC deli with Southern black cooking plus a little Caribbean thrown in. You can skip the barbecue, but everything else is good. The cheesecake is famous -- and unlike Lindy's, the fame is justified.

My favorite time to eat at Junior's is on Sunday afternoon, when the church ladies show up in their best hats.Affordable NYC restaurants.?
You should definitely try Tacu Tacu, 134 North 6th Street Brooklyn. It is an awesome place and for a fam of 4, we usually pay about $70. The food is half Peruvian and have Vietnamesed if u are looking for fun, downstairs from therestaurantt is a karaoke bar!!!! this place is awesome, and you should definitely check it out

Having fun with my girlfriend in NYC?

Hey everybody, first of all thanks for your opinions and help :)

I am on a mission to have fun with my girlfriend! We are both tired of going to the same restaurants / cafes / movie theathers and practically doing the same thing every friday night. Abouth a month ago I decided that this has to change, so I started looking all over the net for cool place to visit, fun activities, etc.

First week we went to wallman's skate rink in CP, that was so much fun, kept us in the great mood all week! Second week we went to top of the rock, incredible view of nyc! Last week we have visited the museum of sex, was fun as well. I am trying to find something fun to do this friday, please help me out here! I am trying to find something else to do besides eating and movies.

Go visit Times Square...there are interesting things to do around there...or there is one of the tour companies that do night tours of NYC which is AMAZING I went last time I was there. Go to www.nyc.com and it has everything you can imagine in NYC we use it all the time to make our plans for our trips in NYC! I can't believe you are having trouble finding stuff to do in a city like that. But check out that website it should help you a lot to get out of your routine.

As far as the tours go if it is a bus I would use grey line...they were great and we had a lot of fun!!!
a carrage ride around central park...very romantic...Having fun with my girlfriend in NYC?
if the weather is nice, how about walking across the Brooklyn bridge or riding the Staten Island ferry? they are both free and give you a great view of the city! or you can go check out the MoMa or the Met if the weather is bad.

Go to a place where they have karaoke - and funk around to some songs ;-]
    Dude,

Glad you took my advice to Top of The Rock! MoMA is free Friday nite, but there is a line. However it is worth this wait.

  • What to do for my 17th Birthday in NYC?

So I'm turning 17 next Tuesday and I want to do something with 3 or 4 of my closest friends. I live in NYC so typical touristy stuff is out. Ideas I had in mind were: A nice restaurant since it is restaurant week, but I need to find a place that is still taking reservations and is vegetarian friendly. The other option I thought of was dancing under the stars in queens. If I can borrow someone's house I would do a dinner party there, very classy, but I don't know if I will be able to because I can't have it at my house (no room). For some of my friends birthdays we did sake bombing (they don't card at many places) and hung around st. marks but I think I want to do something a little more classy, with people dressed up. If you have any other ideas, or tips let me know! :DWhat to do for my 17th Birthday in NYC?
I would stay home and reflect on all the past years and think about the future. Maybe thank your parents and closest friends for being there. When I turned 17 it was one of the first birthdays I felt no change at all - and that is part of growing up. If you like to go out with friends then just go out with them and do anything you like, you don't have to overly fancy.

Best Korean restaurant in New York City (Korea Town)?

I am going to NYC this week and really want to try awesome Korean food! I am especially interested in trying different tteok (ddeok) recipes! So what would be the best korean restaurant with a tteok dish?Best Korean restaurant in New York City (Korea Town)?
Ugh, they're all so overpriced. Gets loud and busy as hell during the night so try

to avoid dinner time. I'd say 'Keun Jip' and 'BCD Tofu House' would have to be my two

favorites. All the other restaurants I find are...total rip offs. They don't taste as great

and you can see that the cooks don't even care about the dishes they're putting out.

The original K-Town was located on 35th so make sure to check out some restaurants

there too. Make sure to avoid 'Madangsui' on 35th. I was extremely disappointed

at that restaurant. Best ddeok (if you're talking about rice cake) would be ddeokbokee.

I like getting mine at Keun Jip. They have a crazy menu so make sure to check them

out. They have everything!Best Korean restaurant in New York City (Korea Town)?
Make sure you stop by K-Town--many of their restaurants have menus right on the street and people to explain what the dishes are. They're really helpful!

    K-Town is in Midtown around 32nd %26amp; 5th Street.

Although it is in New Jersey... you wont regret going there. it is called Chart House and it has an amazing view...especially if you go in the evening. You can see the Hudson River and the entire NYC skyline...Also, the food is amazing and it doesnt have only seafood, it is varied, and the prices are affordable. Oh and I recommend that you order the chocolate lava cake ( i think thats what it is called)...just remember to order it early cuz it takes 30 minutes to prepare....it is AMAZING!!!... anyways i hope this helped and HAVE FUN!!! i included the website under "Sources".Can any1 recommend a nice restaurant for my boyfriend鈥檚 24 birthday next week.?
Italian - Ill Mulino , Japanese - Nobu 57 Thai- Vong Chinese/Japanese/Thai mix - Tao these 4 restaurants have great food are fun for your age group, all of them have nice bars and a good crowd if you want to arrive early. also i didnt mention a steakhouse Maloney %26amp;PorcelliCan any1 recommend a nice restaurant for my boyfriend鈥檚 24 birthday next week.?
Yes...I would start out at the BUBBLE LOUNGE for some Champagne and then maybe a small intimate tapas restaurant called EL SID.

That would make for an awesome evening that I am sure will please both of you.
Morimoto, Spice Market or Fatty Crab in the meatpacking district. Fatty Crab doesn't take reservations, but is so yummy. Or may be Tao in midtown.

Check out Bouley or Danube downtown. Very pricey, but oh so good.

Restaurant to take boyfriend near Madison Square Garden?

I'm going to NYC with my boyfriend next week for his birthday. We're going to the auto show at Jacob Javits, and then I want to take him to dinner. I'd like to eat somewhere in the close vicinity of Madison Square Garden so we don't have to worry about running to catch a train. Any suggestions for a good, reasonably priced place? He's turning 24, and we're into American, Italian and Barbecue food. And we looooove desserts lol. Thanks!Restaurant to take boyfriend near Madison Square Garden?
one really nice restaurant close by is called niles. its a steak spot. its kinda upscale i mean your boyfriend doesnt have to wear a suit and tie but just look nice. i really enjoyed it there and the food was good. http://www.nilesnyc.com/

then 8 blocks up in the times square area, you can walk in as you are to dave n busters, red lobster, applebees, ruby tuesday, bubba gump shrimp. walking or taking a cab might be easier than catching the train, even though its 1 stop on the train

in times square there is an italian spot called carmines http://www.carminesnyc.com/ here you could dress casual. they only serve family size portions, no individual plates so you and your bf would have to agree on the same thing

over on the east side is caliente cab http://calientecab.com/home.html. just click the tab "franchise" and youll see the location for the one on 33rd st. its a mexican spot. come dressed as you are. the margaritas are delicious.

and close by is brother jimmys http://www.brotherjimmys.com/ its by 31st and lexington. its a bbq spot. come as you are. if your guy is really into sports hell like it here. they have different games playing on various tv screens and about 5 different bbq sauces for you to try. my only downfall with this places is that it can get pretty noisy. but i keep going back.

  • I have one week in NYC...?

I'm going to be in New York City for a week, and I there are so many things to do! I need help narrowing them down...

Please offer any shopping suggestions, celebrity hotspots, tourist favorites, or amazing restaurants you know. I want to get the FULL experience of the city!!

Also, I will be there on my birthday, and I LOVE seafood, but don't get to have it much where I live. Any suggestions on a NICE seafood place to go for my birthday dinner?

Thanks!!I have one week in NYC...?
Just spend the time in Macy's and Saks, as you can buy winter and summer stuff at the same time. Swimsuits are to die for. Check out restaurants first so you won't get food poisoning. Go somewhere where the kitchen is on view. Plan well ahead with some tourist books about New York. Go to some musicals and shop in the theatre's sourvenir shops. Go to Woodstock if you like arts and crafts. Watch out for bedbugs. Keep your luggage in the bath and don't hang your stuff up in the hotel wardrobes. Don't buy cut price diamonds from any taxi drivers. Take half your stuff in your hand luggage and half in your suitcase, as the probability your carry on luggage will be the only stuff you have and the other will be lost. If you choose a new t shirt and a design to be printed on it, tell them first that you will pay afterwards and you will not pay if it is applied upside down or crookedly. I bought an expensive beautiful maroon leather briefcase there and it exuded some kind of sticky oil out of its every pore for years. Everything it touched, it stuck to. If you go into a shop and admire some stuff in the main showroom in view of the main entrance, don't let the shop assistant lure you into the basement or attic, by saying WE HAVE THE BEST STUFF, OR THE CHEAPEST STUFF, IN THIS STOREROOM. Stay where other people can see you and vice versa. When you are travelling up an escalator, don't stand facing up, stand sideways so the person behind you can't stick his hand up your dress or between your legs if you are wearing slacks. I got the best haircut I ever experienced, in New York. A gay hairdresser spent about 2 hours just cutting it and it lasted for years!!!!I have one week in NYC...?

    Visiting NYC for a week?

Hi I'm planning to go to New York for a week and I want to know how much money I have for food.

I'm not going to expensive restaurants, but places like McDonald's I'm going to eat, then how much money I would have to eat a week? Thank you and have a good day everyoneVisiting NYC for a week?
Hi. I'd figure at least $40 a day. I know that sounds like a lot if you're going to eat at McDonald's every day. But you probably won't eat at McDonald's for every meal, right? So, even if you stay at modest restaurants, everything costs more in NY. It can be hard to get a sandwich (outside of fast food chains) for less that $7 or $8. So, that's why I'm saying $40 a day. You could eek by on $30, but then if, say, you wanted to by one beer, you'd be out of luck, you know?

Have fun. And I think it's great that you're doing NY on very little money.

Week-long Trip To UK -- How much is the expenses going to cost?

I'm looking for a round trip flight from JFK (NYC) airport to London for two people sometime around mid-April this year. I want to stay in a normal hotel -- nothing fancy or high class. I'll be using public transportation throughout the week and probably buying food a local grocery and perhaps a restaurant or two. What do you think a trip for two people in total would cost?Week-long Trip To UK -- How much is the expenses going to cost?
Taking into consideration that a decent hotel cost about 60 pounds per nite, u would need to put aside for hotel at least 420 pounds. Food would set u back at least 10 - 20 euros depending on what u eat. So it will easily cost u total for 2 people 500-600 pounds for 1 week. That is not even including your airfare. Good luck!

  • Going to Nyc in about 1 week for the first time. Ill be in midtown. That area. What are the must do's? thanks!?

where are the best shops around Broadway? Good Shows? Museums? Restaurants? And what are the places i must see? I wont have much time, considering i am there for dance i get all of two days to have fun. And maybe some extra spare time. Please help? Thank you!(:Going to Nyc in about 1 week for the first time. Too many to name. You can get guidebooks at the bookstore, your library or on line. Fodor's and Frommer's are good ones.Going to Nyc in about 1 week for the first time. Ill be in midtown. That area. What are the must do's? thanks!?
If you're in Midtown, I would suggest the following:

    Museums:

    - Museum of Modern Art: 11 W 53rd St

    - The Metropolitan Museum of Art: 1000 5th Avenue, at E. 76th Street

    - Times Square Exhibition Center: 226 West 44th St. between 7th and 8th Ave

    - Museum of Natural History: 79 Street And Central Park West

    Shows:

    - Wicked!! Absolutely amazing

    Restaurants:

    - The Burger Joint inside the Parker Meridian Hotel: 119 W 56th St

    - Shake Shack (best burgers in the city hands down): 366 Columbus Avenue

    - Calle Ocho (All you can drink Sangria w/purchase of 1 entree during brunch!): 446 Columbus Ave

    Shops:

Midtown is a relatively expensive part of NYC, so I would suggest exploring the shops on Lexington Ave (between 50th and 60th street), or going to Herald Square (34th Street), where Macy's and the Manhattan mall are located.

A really cool thing to do (if you're there on Monday) is see a movie at Bryant Park (broadcast on a huge screen outside).Going to Nyc in about 1 week for the first time. Ill be in midtown. That area. What are the must do's? thanks!?

Restaurant recommendations around the theater district/Times square in New York City?

Whenever I come into NYC for a show I try to stay away from restaurants in this area. I usually head uptown, but next week I will be crunched for time. I refuse to go to a chain or a tourist trap. It doesn't have to be fancy. It could be a hole in the wall, but it has to be good and worth the time and money to go. Thanks!Restaurant recommendations around the theater district/Times square in New York City?

Definitely, positively, absolutely, go to Joe Allen's on W. 46th St.!!

It's a true theater-people hang-out and you'll have an incredible dinner there, while surrounded by actors and stagehands and other theater people galore.

The menu is great (see link, below), and my favorite thing about Joe Allen's is their Wall Of Shame, which is hung with posters for famous Broadway flops that opened and closed in, like, one week, like, for example, the Broadway version of the movie "Carrie!"

Seriously, though, Joe Allen is a real treat, and trust me, you won't be sorry you went there. Oh, and have the gorgonzola salad as your side salad, it's to die for!!

Good luck, and the link below is to their website...

A good restaurant in Nyc with "Christmas Spirit" during the holidays?

I'm thinking about going to nyc with my best girlfriend this Christmas time (not on Christmas, probably two - three weeks before) and I wanted to know if there were any good restaurants with a really nice Christmasy feel (ie. decor, themes, foods, etc) - I know about the usuals, Tavern on the Green, 1 if by land, and I heard Gramercy Tavern doesnt have very good food.... So other than those - any suggestions? The budget is probably 75 - 100 per person, and neither of us drink alcohol at all, so thats not a factor. Thanks! :)A good restaurant in Nyc with "Christmas Spirit" during the holidays?
Rock Center Cafe, it's on the lower level concourse of Rockefeller Center. Right next to the skating rink, and close to the giant tree.

I think they have might some kind of "Breakfast With Santa" promotion. Probably themed Christmastime menus as well, you can check their web-site for menus and more info. It's a great restaurant with non-outrageous prices.A good restaurant in Nyc with "Christmas Spirit" during the holidays?
Gramercy Tavern is one of the best restaurants in New York and would be a great choice. Check its Zagat rating or any review, it has great food.

Tavern on the Green is a tourist trap and should be avoided at all costs.

Blue Water Grill is festive and fun, there are temporary Christmas shops right across the street. Its on Union Square.A good restaurant in Nyc with "Christmas Spirit" during the holidays?
    Park Avenue Winter

The name and decor of the restaurant actually changes seasonally. It's real chic and probably won't remind you of Christmas persay, but in terms of winter decor and trendiness, you can't win with anything else but this restaurant.

Holiday booked, Limo booked, romantic restaurant booked, its all good, lets have a quick whip round for public opinion if girls think she is going to say yes or no. Who can guess huh? shall I shant i?!!So, should I pop the question to my girl or not while on Hols next week in NYC?
AWWW, Yes pop the question!! The setting is perfect. Good luck xxxx Awwww how sweet
If you love each other, you should definatly ask her. Its a great little romantic trip that you have planned. I think you should go for it.So, should I pop the question to my girl or not while on Hols next week in NYC?
Sounds Wonderful! You should do it! I know she'll say YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds lovely. Go for it and good luck!!So, should I pop the question to my girl or not while on Hols next week in NYC?
Yes, ASK HER!!! You have all that awesome nice stuff she'll LOVE it!!
you got to ask her someday anyway...so why not during a romantic trip :)
i take it you've been seeing each other for a while and the 'L' word has already been mentioned?

In which case - i think she will say yes - i wish my hubby had put as much effort into the proposal as you are - he proposed in bed!

nevertheless, it was romantic, and he made me cry by being so sweet!
Well if she realizes what a catch you are, she will. I was proposed to with a "so do you want to get married or what?" in my dorm room. No ring, no romance! GOOD LUCK!
Seeing as how you seem to have gone to so much trouble, it would be foolish not to ask her wouldn't it?

I guess you'll stay with her even if she says "No" ?? Might put a damper on your holiday though ...
go ahead.. nothing to lose man.. good luck
well it sounds like you really love her if you did all this for her. If you've been together less than a year though you might want to wait a little longer if not it's a go. Good luck to you two :)
It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it... that tells me you know her, love her so why wouldn't she say yes :)

Good luck and best wishes on your life together
So you're asking for butt love huh?

Its always a tough one. Its easier to get forgiveness than permission - don't ask, do...
go on, a very romantic notion!
IF YOU THINK THE BOTH OF YOU ARE READY FOR THAT COMMITMENT THEN SURE GO AHEAD HOW COULD SHE TURN YOU DOWN WITH ALL THE ROMANTIC THING YOU HAVE GOING ON FOR HER JUST TO PROPOSE .. SHE WILL SAY YES GO FOR IT
dude take her to central park on a horse and carriage and do it then doesn't get much more romantic
If you know her well you will know what she would say. I got engaged last month and it was fantastic. But we have to wait a while b4 we get married. its all about the future and what it looks like with another person, its scary if you dont know the person well enough or if you have doubts its a big descision, but if you are best friends like we are its natural to assume that theres no turning back and no hesitation. may love be stronger than any tribulation you ever find in your way!!!!
I think you should go fo it, she will love it and love you even more for making it so special. I wish you all the luck in the world
Whatchu talkin about, Willis? Where is Mr. Drummond when we need him? Where is Kimberly?
that's going to be so great...you should definetely do it if ur sure you guys both LOVE each other...she'll love it...GOOD LUCK
If you do, make sure it means something to her.

If she likes gardens, flowers, trees.....go to the botanical gardens or Central Park. If she likes theatre, try to get tickets to a play she would like. (and there are plays other than on Broadway).

Make it romantic. Stars and twinkling lights or sunshine and butterflies. It all depends on what she likes.

    Good Luck.
do it - go to Central Park and do a horse %26amp; carriage ride - propose to her there - just like in the movies!
    sound like a good plan.
If you're not sure then maybe you shouldn't be asking? Aw go for it...I bet she says yes!
with all that in place how can she say no. if you both love each other then ask her.
Does she love you, have you talked about your future together, if the answer is yes to both of these then you go for it, I bet she will be thrilled to bits that you have done such a romantic thing for her, don't forget to get down on one knee will you, good luck.
That sounds wonderful. Your obviously someone very much in love with her and very considerate to think of such a nice romantic setting for the occasion, she'll certainly appreciate that and of course she knows just what a wonderful person you are already, and of course if she's as much in love with you... she's bound to say yes!

    Good luck
yes why not do it while in New York
I would love to come see the reception lol. You go for it luv wow if she says no ask me lol.

It sounds like your relationship is tough enough and the way you love her shows, id go for it hun u cant lose.

    Goodluck and best wishes xxxxxxxxx
DO NOT ask her when your on a high in your relationship, she would obviously say yes, but what you need to know is if she will commit when you are ill/skint/drunk or homeless. Then SHE will have to think abit more of what SHE wants, a good holiday or a husband?
your gonna make me cry....i got a lump in my throat thinking bout this.

good on you for finding the love of your life, now go and enjoy the rest of your lifes together and never forget this loved up feeling you got in your heart. xx

What should I see in Nyc if I only have 3 days?

Im going to NYC next week to go check out NYU before I apply for admission this fall. I only have 3 days to see the sights and ill be staying near Wall Street. What are the best sights, restaurants and shows to go see for a traveler on both a time and monetary budgetWhat should I see in Nyc if I only have 3 days?
It's a walker's city and we have trains, buses and taxis to get you from point A to point B. There's a lot to see and cover, and you only have 3 days. What do you like?

Check out the Wall Street area and see where the "money gets made and exchanged". Chinatown and Little Italy are within walking distance too. That could be your first day. Second day I would go to the Village and check out Washington Park where part of NYU is spread out over and then Central Park by 5th Avenue in the 50's, where the tony (meaning fancy) stores are like Tiffanys. Then I would check out the Spirit of New York boat ride, and take a couple of hours going around Manhattan and seeing the infamous skyline.

At Sunset I would check out the South Street Seaport.

Third day, try to check out some museums if you wish, we have plenty! There's the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History for starters.

I would say to check out Times Square but I think you'll be exhausted by then. Times Square can get claustrophobic with the glut of tourists roaming and clogging the streets.

The big things you MUST do is Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and Times Square. I really suggest a tour bus. You'll do a lot of things and see a lot of places you just cant get around to doing by yourself. Coney Island is questionable, I think you should do something else.... See a good play. New York is famous for plays. Best Pizza in New York is my opinion is John's Pizza. Its by Times Sqaure and Broadway.

What's a good place to go after the NYC Marathon?

I am running the NYC Marathon in two weeks. I want to meet my friends after the race somewhere, and then go have lunch to celebrate my finishing, with a few drinks. What's a good restaurant near the end of the NYC Marathon? What's a good place to go after the NYC Marathon?
A lot depends on where you are staying or where you live. Don't focus on finding a "hot" restaurant tnat is "fit for foodies" - find a place that is decent enough and works logistically. After the marathon, you'll be in no shape to walk extensively or climb or go down stairs, and if you have a large group, you don't want to have to work to keep it together among the throngs near Central Park. So plan to walk a reasonable distance - say a half mile - to a place, or hop on the subway a few stops and find a place away from the park.

In the latter category, I'd suggest going down to the Penn Station area. You can catch the C train at 72nd and Central Park West - right where you exit the park - and then take it down to 33rd and 8th. From there, it's an easy walk to Tir Na Nog, one of the best Irish pubs in Manhattan. There are many other choices, too. I was at Mustang Harry's, at 30th and 7th, the other day and they had a sign saying they would be offering special pre-race and post-race meals for marathoners that met the nutritional guidelines of experts. There are many other choices in that vicinity that tend to have plenty of room. What's a good place to go after the NYC Marathon?

Restaurant in nyc - up high and outside?

My husband and I are going in a few weeks and I would really love to eat outside and up high, like out on a terrace or whatever. We will be going primarily for the experience and less for the actual food. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!Restaurant in nyc - up high and outside?
I'm not sure if they have outside eating at the Terrace Restaurant up at Columbia University, but they have incredible views, unlike most of the other restaurants that are on top of buildings as it's way uptown.

Also, the Marriott hotel in Times Square, a revolving restaurant, not outside as far as I know, but you get the view of all of NY.

Spending all the money, Jon George, Columbus Circle, up too high to eat outside, but incredible food, about the best, but prices to match, again, you get the view even if you aren't outside.Restaurant in nyc - up high and outside?
Date night for you and your husband! How fun!

I have the perfect place for you: The Top of the Tower. Heard of it? I think I'd been in the City for three years before I "discovered" this restaurant/bar on the 26th floor of the Beekman Hotel. On 1st Ave. and 49th.

You can choose to eat on the wraparound terrace, or just have drinks there, and move indoors to dine. Call to reserve a table on the East River side or the City side....the view is big and beautiful.

And because the restaurant is on the small size, you'll enjoy personable service. And each other's company.

Click on the links below to get an idea of the views and overall atmosphere of the Tower, and be sure to check out the menus!

You're in for an evening you'll cherish. The perfect date for you and your husband.

I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?

Hey, I'm moving to Manhattan in a week and will be staying in mid-town west. I've been a couple times before but just on short trips and have always had tour guides. I have a friend coming in with me for the first week and she has never been to NYC before so I was looking for some pointers on things to check out. We're obviously planning on the statue of liberty and the empire state building but also think it would be cool to do some different things- I'm looking for some suggestions for restaurants, things to do at night, just anything really. Maybe some things that a tourist normally wouldn't find/know about?

One last thing, we are on budgets so if there are tips for stuff that wouldn't be too expensive, that would be awesome. Thanks!I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?

You should definitely go to the Met... and the Staten Island Ferry is nice. Take a walk around Central Park. Another good museum on the "museum mile" is the Guggenheim, which is nice, but pricey. Also, even if you're not religious, the cathedrals there are worth a visit.I'm going to NYC next week and need suggestions...?
Purchase a week pass for the public transport. You may use this on the subway and the bus system, above ground, so that you can SEE the city.

Be sure to take in the many museums which are available at little cost or donation and have great shops inside as well as places to eat. Many of the museums surround Central Park which is full of free fun, Strawberry Fields, Carousel, Zoo, Concerts.

Be sure to go to Mulberry Street in the old Italian district and eat outside at a cafe which is very inexpensive and has great food and bakeries.

Check out Wall Street, be sure and visit Grand Central Terminal which usually has a free display/ movie and lots of action as the trains come in and out.

Go visit the Intrepid aircraft carrier for a cool experience.

Don't forget to ride the Staten Island Ferry.... it is free !!!!

Way cool at night time as you sail right past Lady Liberty all lit up in her glory.

Shopping? Go to Barney's the most expensive store and you will be blown away at the prices and if you keep a keen eye.... you will see celebrity's there if that is of interest to you.

Have fun.... the City that never sleeps

NYC is great! You should really come and visit it. I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!
here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

we went to NY for a week.

    we had a blast!!!

you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/day-鈥?/a>

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/tour鈥?/a>

there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)

you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^

if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/trav鈥?/a>

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi

also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.

    don't miss to go inside.

    it's wonderful!!!

we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)

for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/livi鈥?/a>

you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)

we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.

To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/labo鈥?/a>

we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)

then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)

if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :p

    DON'T MISS eating at PARADOU!!!

    it's a MUST!!!

    trust me on this!

you also gotta watch a broadway show! definitely!

    there's WICKED and SPAMALOT :)

  • What's with the portion size of fancy Italian restaurants in NYC? Any places with huge portions?

I've eaten at Il Tinello and Il Cantinori in NYC... I'm from NYC but since I'm not a millionaire, I don't frequent fancy, expensive restaurants. I went for restaurant week to Il Cantinori, which was wonderful, but left me wanting more! What the HECK is up with these fancy restaurants with such small portion sizes. My ravioli was thin, but delicious, and there were 3 ravioli on the plate. The tiramisu was the size of a small cell phone charger head (no bigger than 4 inches high and 4 inches wide!!). I know fancy gourmet expensive places are like that - they serve the tiny-*** portions and charge an arm and a leg, cuz to them it's the "artistic" visual splendor of looking at the dish that's appealing to them, but trust me, when you're paying over $50 a person, nobody cares about artistry, they want more food and huge portions are welcomed, doggie-bag it if you need to, the customers will be happy!

Anyone know of an EXCELLENT Italian restaurant in Manhattan that has excellent service, decent decor, decent ambience, and has HUGE portions and isn't TOO expensive? I'm hoping you can help. The portion thing bothers me immensely. If you're serving me crap and you know it, serve small portions, don't serve me small portions of delicious food and make me feel like I'm an anorexic eating dinner ok!What's with the portion size of fancy Italian restaurants in NYC? Any places with huge portions?
an excellent choice for you would be either of these two:

    Tony's DiNapoli

    or

    Carmine's

both are very reasonably priced and are "family style" meaning: all dishes are for two....

everything is served on big platters, food is reasonably good.

both are conveniently located in midtown.

Hey everyone. So I'm going to NYC (SoHo) next week, and need YOUR recommendations on restaurants, bars, etc!!

I'm not looking to break the bank on touristy places, I need the inside scoop on great authentic food, lounges/bars/clubs, and anything else going on next week (8/15-8/18) in the Manhattan/SoHo area. Thanks for responding!Hey everyone. So I'm going to NYC (SoHo) next week, and need YOUR recommendations on restaurants, bars, etc!!
I love NYC! Here are some ideas of what you can do while in NYC. First, get a good tour map. Then I recommend you take the BIG APPLE double decker tour bus for an overview of the city. There are several different neighborhoods so I'll highlight these and what to see:

Upper East Side: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim, Whitney Museum. Walk up and down Madison Avenue for awesome shops and boutiques 96th - 57th st. Walk Park Avenue for architecture all the way to Grand Central Terminal and see the treasures located within. Walk along 5th Avenue to see/go in and out of Central Park - go for a run, go to the Central Park Zoo, go to the Carousel, go for a gondola ride at the boat house.

    UPPER WEST SIDE:

Museum of Natural History -a must! on Central Park West,

Walk along Columbus Avenue. Visit the West side of Central Park and pay respects to John Lennon's Strawberry Fields.

    MIDTOWN:

Shopping - 57th St (Chanel and the gang), Fifth Avenue - must see Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks and FAO Schwartz - many other fun stores.

    St. Patrick's Cathedral

    Museum of Modern Art

    Sony Bldg

    Rockefeller Center

Go west to awesome new Time Warner center and visit the new Mandarin Hotel bar/restaurant for awesome view and treats!

Oh, Bloomingdale's is on 59th St and Lexington.

    Empire State Bldg.

The Intrepid Aircraft Museum is fascinating and on the West side...worth the visit even if you have no kids.

    CHELSEA:

Walk around the blooming area sprouting awesome restaurants and shops. Chelsea Pier is fun.

    WALL ST:

Pay respects to the 9/11 victims and heroes at the WTC site., Walk Wall St., visit the Chase Hdqtrs, Federal Reserve. Seaport area is great to see.

    THE VILLAGE:

Funky shops in the West Village. Walk through the NYU Washington Square Park. The East Village has some shops from new artists and designers

    SOHO:

Great galleries and shops on n off West Broadway. Walk thru to Little Italy for awesome meals and desserts...walk through Chinatown. CANAL STREET has stall after stall of Designer "copies"...bring cash and bargain and watch your purse!

These should put an awesome smile on your face. Bring your camera and takes lots of photos to remember your trip. You'll have a blast! OH...BUY this weekly magazine: TIMEOUT NEW YORK on any newstand to see what's going on each week/day. :)
Head to Corio on 337 W Broadway. Not only is their food unique and delicious- think classics such as popcorn shrimp in addition to Mediterranean bites- but Corio has sexy ambiance created by the plush decor, awesome music, and authentic Burlesque performances on the weekends.

Hey everyone. So I'm going to NYC (SoHo) next week, and need YOUR recommendations on restaurants, bars, etc!!
Best walk-in restaurant (hard to get a table this If you want to stay in SoHo there's a cool little pan-Asian restaurant on Prince St. a block west of West Broadway called Peep. It has the coolest bathrooms - the doors are one-way mirrors! If you want to listen to jazz head north to the West Village, around 7th Avenue near 4th St. and also Bleecker St. You'll pay far less than hanging out at the lounges in SoHo. If you want cool then Randy Gerber has a bar at the W Hotel on Union Square North.
I will give three great places:

    1. LUPA , an Italian Bistro , on Thompson, great food a wines

    2. Peep, Great Thai food, contemporary Deco

3.Balthasar: , off Broadway, great place to have Breakfast, but the place is open from 7in the morning to 3 at night.

If you're game to get up super early, you can go see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Don't know how old you are but Poly Esthers in Greenwich Village is fun and there's always something going on in Times Square.
You MUST go to some Broadway shows. My absolute favorite is Jersey Boys, but you probably will not be able to get tickets, as I had to wait a year for them.So my advice: look for tickets to whatever shows you want to see ASAP.

Otherwise, you should definitely check out the major and obvious sights - Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, etc.

And you should go to Little Italy for some of the best resturaunts.

    Have fun!

Gather up a group of friends and go to Wo Hop on Mott Street. It's delish ... and pretty inexpensive. Afterwards, walk uptown, and stop at an Italian pastry shop in the village for pastries and capuccino. I also like the Indian Restaurants on 6th Street; they're atmospheric, really inexpensive and wonderful!

By the way, if you go on www.restaurants.com you can find really good deals on a lot of great restaurants in Manhattan. (They have links to the menus, so you can decide before you buy a certificate if it's a place you like and can afford.)

What are some great, cheap restaurants in NYC?

I'll be in NYC for about a week staying near Central Park on the upper east side. This will be my girlfriend's first time in NYC, and only my 3rd, so I was wanting to plan some of the cheaper stuff we'll be doing. I was hoping someone could tell me some really awesome "dives", or just cheap restaurants, around that area for any meal, any time of day. Trying to stay around that area, but if there's something cheap that absolutely can't be missed in Brooklyn, I'd consider it! Thanks. What are some great, cheap restaurants in NYC?

  • A decent, inexpensive, vegan restaurant in NYC?

I'm visiting New York to see my boyfriend in about 2 weeks. However, this will be my first trip to NYC as a vegan and I really don't know where I should go. My sister and her boyfriend recommend some great restaurants, but they are, however, expensive and that just isn't our style. I would love suggestions on an inexpensive, vegan restaurant that would be great for lunch or dinner. Preferably something quick with good food.

Thanks a bunch, guys!!A decent, inexpensive, vegan restaurant in NYC?
Well my favorite and the one I go too all the time when I am in NYC (so twice so far but friends always rave about) is Red Bamboo, it is pretty decently priced for vegan food:

    http://www.redbamboo-nyc.com/

Plus there is a restaurant almost next door (seriously not joking I think it is one restaurant down) called Vegetarians Paradise II (I believe I could be wrong)

Plus about a block down is Vegan street food (no joke, I think it is indian food but I could be wrong)

There was also sNice which I went too and had a decent sandwich for a good price I would say it is a snice place (pun intended) though don't get a italian soda, the guy I ordered from didn't know what it was and didn't put enough syrup in but everything else was good:

    http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/sni鈥?/a>

Plus you must save some cash and room for HOMEMADE VEGAN BANANA SPLITS WITH HOMEMADE VEGAN ICE CREAM AND TOPPINGS...trust me it was an experience beyond words or belief.

    http://www.lulassweetapothecary.com/

    This place is also good:

Here is a good list of places to eat:

    http://supervegan.com/restaurants.php

    And here is another:

    http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs鈥?/a>

Plus there is an actual guide printed of just vegan restaurants that is pretty thick and I know that Lula's sold it. I don't remember the name but it was all vegan and could have been at least 100+ pages (D.C. has a veg food guide not all vegan and it is like 10 pages and it lists vegetarian places and also places that have veg and vegan options but still serve meat)

Have fun in NYC just don't eat too much (trust me going from red bamboo too Lula's recently I passed a food co-op a health food store and a vegan bakery plus I believe at least one more vegan restaurant all within about 10 blocks or so plus the VPII near Red Bamboo) NYC is a vegan food paradise.
Glad I could help...have a lot fun and if you go to red bamboo the vegan crab rangoon is awesome and if you are not a huge eater could be paired with another great appetizer for a good filling meal.

The Playwright by Times Square...it's got a bar for you 21 year olds but don't neglect the underaged, they can eat there too. It's easy walking distance from the broadway shows if you were planning on going.

Actually, better go to www.menupages.com and click on Times Square :-)What is a good restaurant for a first night in NYC?

The River Cafe in Brooklyn (it's right over the bridge) Food's wonderful, service is excellent and every seat has a view of Manhattan - great restaurant [this time of year, you can get there by water taxi which is affordable and makes your evening extra special]

You should check out Graceful Services on Second Avenue. They offer some of the best massages in the city, are open late, and are pretty flexible with scheduling. Definitely worth looking into if you want a relaxing little treat http://diary.thepurplepassport.com/new-y鈥?/a>What are reasonable yet enjoyable spas and restaurants in NYC?

    NYC:

    Cowgirl

    Mangia E Bevi

    Stanton Social

    Planet Thailand 212

The places that I know of are in Downtown JC and they are pretty tame. Hoboken is nice, but I have a feeling that the restaurants there would be pretty similar to JC.

Jekyll and Hyde is okay, but I would suugest Stanton or Cowgirl.

    Have a great Birthday!!

id love to go there again. so those people are crazy.

What was the name & location of a kosher restaurant or catering service highlighted this week by Tony Tantillo?

On Channel 2 News (CBS TV) one morning late this week he featured a woman with short dark hair wearing a white uniform %26amp; displaying some of her gourmet dishes. The name of her business was "Old" something, %26amp; I can't remember or locate it. Help me out with identifying it, please. Don't know if it was in Brooklyn or elsewhere in NYC. Thank you. What was the name %26amp; location of a kosher restaurant or catering service highlighted this week by Tony Tantillo?
Well, the segment you're referring to is called "Tony Tantillo's Dining Deal" and the one you're thinking of might be a place called "Octavia's Porch" (see link, below).

If that's not it, you'll find a directory of his other episodes at the second link, below.

    Good luck!... :-D

  • How hard is it for a vegetarian to eat 100% ORGANIC during 1 week holiday in NYC?

My foreign friend is on a very strict diet due to severe food allergies plus she's vegetarian. I told her she'll have a hard time dining out and finding anything ORGANIC to eat in NYC restaurants, delis and dinners during her week's vacation. Is she better off going somewhere else?

NOTE: not just vegetarian but ORGANIC. ThanksHow hard is it for a vegetarian to eat 100% ORGANIC during 1 week holiday in NYC?
Also try happycow.net for vegetarian/vegan restaurants.

There are so many specialty dishes and restaurants in NYC due to the amount of diverse people there. I don't think it will be hard at all and there are a lot of organic grocery stores. It shouldn't be a problem, just look up organic restaurants in NYC. I'd be really surprised if you couldn't find anything.

Edit: Literally just googled "organic NYC restaurants" and so much showed up.

I think you're wrong ? Especially about New York... Just go to Whole Foods and stock up on organic stuff. Super easy.

I can imagine there is a plethora of restaurants in New York devoted to organic vegetarian cuisine.

What are some inexpensive, informal restaurants in NYC you'd recommend?

I was planning on going to Serendipity3 during my trip to NYC next week, until I found out it was closed because of a rat infestation! Does anyone know any nice, teen friendly, inexpensive, and informal restaurants in NYC? Something out of the ordinary, not just your average Olive Garden or Applebee's. Thanks! What are some inexpensive, informal restaurants in NYC you'd recommend?
    Jillian,

Pizza is always a hit. John's Pizzeria on 44th St is right off Times Square and housed within the cavernous atmosphere of a former theater. It's loud and hectic and touristy, but pretty exciting for a teen. You could also try John's on Bleecker St (in the Village) or Lombardi's (in Little Italy), or even Grimaldi's (in Brooklyn underneath the Brooklyn Bridge) for more old-school, small-scale New York atmosphere (although all get crowded).

    Right next door to John's (44th) is Carmine's, a family-style Italian restaurant with a long-standing reputation and a similar atmosphere to John's.

If the weather's nice, consider strolling down to Madison Square Park (at 23rd %26amp; 5th) and stopping by the Shake Shack. This is an "upscale" gourmet burger %26amp; milkshake stand run by a well-regarded New York restauranteer that's nestled down right in the middle of the park. It's something of a phenomenon in this city and provides great (outdoor) atmosphere. The lines can get really long here, so be wary of the lunch hour rush if you can help it.What are some inexpensive, informal restaurants in NYC you'd recommend?
I believe that Serendipity 3 opened up again. It closed in Nov. 2007, and reopened Dec. 2007.What are some inexpensive, informal restaurants in NYC you'd recommend?
