I am not talking about arcade or mini games like Pacman. I am talking about games where their is a plot or a storyline to the game. My guess would be the first Final Fantasy game. If you're including computer games, the first adventure game with a storyline containing graphics as far as I can tell was 'Mystery House'...which was made in 1980. The creators went on to create the well-know King's Quest series of computer games, which also preceded most stand-alone gaming systems. What was the first video game with an official storyline?

Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves video game was released in 1981 by Quality Software for the Atari. It was one of the first Top down role playing games. Growing up, we loved the seemingly endless game of solving puzzles, collecting weapons and armor, and rescuing characters who would join your party.
