How do I play a game with 2 other computers without having an internet connection?

I want to play Diablo 2 with my gf and her brother. We have 2 laptops and 1 desktop. I was wondering if it was possible to make something like a LAN without having an internet connection ,maybe using the USB port or something? So that we could all be in the same game playing together.

Thanks! How do I play a game with 2 other computers without having an internet connection?Internet is not required, but a router will be. Otherwise you can only connect two of the PC's. I won't go into "multi-homed systems" as that will get very confusing, but your starting point is a router and 3 network cables.

If only 2 will play together, then a single crossover cable will do it. A crossover cable allows two PC's to be directly connected without any other equipment.

Once you have the kit, follow the instructions on setting up a home network at link below. How do I play a game with 2 other computers without having an internet connection? You will need to hook each computer up to a router (either wired or wireless). I believe you will need an internet connection to play with other users. How do I play a game with 2 other computers without having an internet connection? You can play together without the Internet but you'll need a switch/router and plug all your computers into it via Ethernet. All computers have this built in by default. There should be an option in game to choose LAN rather than the Internet. Choose this and host a game, and the others on your LAN should see it, firewalls provided. How do I play a game with 2 other computers without having an internet connection?
Oh yea if you use a router, you may just be able to plug them in and it will take care of all the settings for you

If it's a hub or switch you'll need to follow the directions below.

You would at least need a hub, you're more likely to have a router, if you have something like that you'll need to hook them all into the device with ether net cables then go around and assign ips to them like.

192.168.1.1

192.168.1.2

192.169.1.3

(this would be in the properties of thier LAN connection under TCP/IP)

I'd try leaving gateway blank if it will let you ( can't remember if it will) if not set it up kind of like a rign where 192.168.1.1's gate way is 192.168.1.2 and 1.2's is 1.3 and 1.3's is 1.1's

then set the sub net mask to 255.255.255.0 on all of them.

You may have to reboot but at that point they should see each other. Assuming the game supports local lan play you should be good.

(Disable any software firewalls.)
