So I've been to NY once before but it was a few years ago so I just have a few questions-
How much does it cost to take a taxi to/from JFK to an apartment which is near Central Park? (I'm sorry I don't know what end of the park)
What are some really good restaurants I should go to?
What broadway show would you most reccomend to try to go see?
When I was there before it was only a few days so I didn't get to do too many things but this time I'm staying over a week- so what places/activities would you reccomend would be really fun for two 20 year old women?
What areas of the city would not be very safe to go alone or with another 20 year old woman?
How much does a metro pass cost? How many rides are they good for?
How much $ would you reccomend to bring for taxis if I will be there 9 - 10 days?
I know thats a lot of questions! Answer what ever you might know and can help me out with.
Thank you so much !!!I'm travelling to NYC in a few months and I have a few questions?
The above posting is pretty good, but I've got a couple of minor adjustments.
I'm not sure if the $40 estimate is still accurate, but the taxi fares posted above are out-of-date. The current ones are:
$2.50 initial charge
$2.00 per mile ($0.40 per 1/5 mile)
$0.40 per 60 seconds of stopped or slow traffic
$0.50 Night surcharge (8:00P-6:00A)
$1.00 Peak surcharge (MON-FRI 4:00P-8:00P)
I do disagree somewhat with the assessment of "not safe." As with anywhere else, you should be aware of your surroundings and know what to do if something goes wrong, but I can't say I think of New York as someplace that is blatantly "not safe." I've felt very safe, and just about anyone I've talked to does as well. Again, you just have to be smart, don't do things that point a bull's-eye on you as a "lost tourist," take steps to protect yourself, and you'll be fine. Basically use common sense.
My general rule is stay in or near busy, well-traveled areas. It's a rough guideline during the day, but stick closer to it at night.
With taxis, think about your route and find out if mass transit will work better. It's always cheaper, it's fast and easy, it's often the best way, especially the subways. At night, the taxis become a more attractive option. However, in all my 22 years, all of them in NYC, I have yet to use a taxi.
As for actual visiting tips at specific spots, I'll see if I can add to this later.
Enjoy the trip! It's a wonderful town indeed.I'm travelling to NYC in a few months and I have a few questions?
I am going to New york also for the first time. I asked this same question! What are you going there for? I am going with school! Hope you get lots of good answers because I need to know too! I also asked so check out the answers to my questions too!I'm travelling to NYC in a few months and I have a few questions?
Taxi from/to JFK: around $40 (the end of the park doesn't affect the price)
Restaurants: This is so subjective that you really should pick something that you like from the following site... http://nymag.com/restaurants/wheretoeat/鈥?/a>
Broadway shows: Wicked, Mamma Mia, and Spamalot to name a few, or for more choices...
http://www.broadway.com/
20 yr old women: See a showing of Letterman or Conan. Walk by Ground Zero. Go do the tourist stuff and see the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. You won't get into a lot of clubs since you are underage, unless of course you lie to get in and if you're planning on doing that then you probably won't care what club as long as you get in.
Safety: It is never safe to walk around NYC alone and not much safer since you are a woman. This is not a double standard. Criminals tend to target women. Stick with large groups if you can and always be aware of your surroundings. This goes for day or night (of course night would obviously be more dangerous).
Metro: The fare for a subway or local bus ride is $2. The fare for an express bus ride is $5.
Pay-per-ride MetroCard: Buy as many rides as you want from $4 to $80. Put $10 or more on your card and receive a 20 percent bonus. For example, a $20 purchase gives you $24 on your card. 12 trips for the price of 10. You get an automatic free transfer between subway and bus, or between buses.
Unlimited Ride MetroCard:
1-Day Fun Pass
Cost: $7, reduced fare not available
Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides from first use until 3 a.m. the following day.
7-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard
Cost: $24, reduced fare $12
Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight, 7 days from day of first use.

Taxi travel: It really depends on how often you plan to use taxis. Base your figures on the number of trips you think you will take and the following rates...
Initial fare.............$2.00
Each 1/5 mile (4 blocks).$0.30
Each 1 minute idle.......$0.20
Night surcharge..........$0.50 (after 8pm until 6am)
Additional riders........FREE
There are many really good restaurants in Canal Street that are pretty cheap too.
I would recommend seeing Chicago, its way better than seeing it in movie form.
Try going to teh museams, it's just so historic what you find in there.
Most places in Manhattan are safe as long as it's daylight but don't go past 110st
Metrocards are $2 per ride and there are some weekly passes if you want.
