My dad was tell ing me about a childs restaurant in NYC were going to NY this next week does anyone know about theseDoes any one know anything about childs family resaurant in New York City?
Is Mars 2012 still open? That's near the Theatre district, around 50th and Broadway. Science-fiction themed.
Jekyll %26amp; Hide club, on 6th avenue bet 57th %26amp; 58th-- is that still open? Has a horror theme.
Serendipity on East 60 bet 2nd %26amp; 3rd. Sophisticated clientele, frozen "hot" chocolates are out of this world. This one needs reservations, even for lunch.
Two Boots in the Village (the one in Rockefeller Center is just a lunch stand). They serve Italian and Cajun.
There are other places in Times Square like ESPN Zone, Bubba Gump, Planet Hollywood...
Uno Chicago Pizza (various places, 3rd Ave near 12th St, also west of the Museum of Natural History, which I think is Columbus Avenue.) Very child friendly, deep dish pizza and children's menu.
But other than Serendipity and Two Boots, why "Disney-fy" your children? One doesn't go to New York to eat franchise food. New York is full of restaurants that, if not child-friendly, are child-tolerant if the kid is not off-the-wall. Try an ethnic restaurant: kids like the sweet dishes at Thai restaurants; they love the breads from India; most eat tacos while you can try a more satisfying traditional Mexican dish; let them nibble on sweet-n-sour chicken while you try a hot Szechuan dish at a Chinese/Szechuan/Hunan restaurant; Middle Eastern falafel and hummus have a child following; everything Greek is great; and JAPANESE is the healthiest for the adults -- kids can have tempura, or tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), or chicken teriyaki while adults can have sushi or a bowl of savory meat and veggies.
In other words, avoid the themes and the chains, or at least don't make them your destination. Go ethnic. They're everywhere, they don't serve "weird" stuff (no grasshopper burrittos with snail/ cat sauce or whatever the subconscious thinks is out there; face your worse fears and you'll see there's no such thing). These restaurants wouldn't be in business all these years if they served strange food.
If you're, unfortunately, not adventuresome (I feel sorry for people who restrict themselves from the unknown), find anywhere Italian or with the word "Cafe" in it. There'll be spaghetti or burgers or chicken and no tantrums from the kids (nor the adults).
New Yorkers are more often staying in the City to raise their children, so you'll see "Stroller Moms" everywhere, in the Village and the Upper West %26amp; East Sides -- but as not much in Midtown, which is the business and theater and tourist center, and not really in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. Believe it or not, however, there are public schools in all those areas, too!
I'd stay away from the theme restaurants and eat where the "locals" eat with their children. You'll get a better sense of what NY is like that way.Does any one know anything about childs family resaurant in New York City?
