How can I lose weight without risking my health?

I'm a 14 year old guy now... but anyways,I used to be a pretty hefty child, like I weighed more than I do now. Well, I figured it was about time to lose weight so during middle school, I think around 8th grade in the summer time, I went on a six week starve/diet type of thing. And then I lost like 30 pounds while growing 3-4 inches. So I lost more like 50 pounds. Now that I'm starting high school, ever since I went to NYC for vacation, we went eating around all these restaurants and I ate so much. I thought walking around Times Square, taking the subway, whatever, would help me stabilize my weight. But it didn't. And now that I'm starting school again, I'm starting to gain weight. For instance, I used to weigh 118 before NYC, afterwords I weighted 122, and now I weigh 132. I know I'm still growing taller, and I'm supposed to be 5'10.5" which is a good height for me at least, and I don't want to risk that. But I also don't want to be overweight again... so what should I do? How can I lose weight without risking my health?
I think you're smart to stay on top of this, but don't be obsessive. Make yourself some simple rules to follow such as:

1) Weigh yourself once a week, at approx. the same time, wearing approx. the same thing.

2) Try to make the healthiest choices possible when choosing food. For example, choose brown rice over white rice. Choose whole-grained bread over white bread, etc.

3) Eat half to 3/4 of your normal portion at each meal.

4) Never skip breakfast as it wakes up your metabolism and gets it working for the day.

5) Only allow yourself one sweet on Saturday and one on Sunday (unless it's a special occasion like a birthday). Chew sugarless gum when you want because sometimes you just need a flavor in your mouth.

6) Drink mostly water and plenty of it. Save sweet drinks for special occasions. Limit soda-even diet. Skim milk is excellent!

7) Try to hit all the major food groups when choosing your food: lean protein, veggies, fruits, whole-grains, low-fat dairy.

8) Be more active. Ride your bike, jog, take a walk, play a sport, put on some good tunes and dance, jump rope, etc. Try to do something that leaves you huffing and puffing for 30 minutes each day.

I think if you do this, you'll be fine. This is an important "growing" time for your body and you want to make sure that you're providing all the nutrients that it needs to do what it's supposed to do. This page can help you learn how to do that:

Good luck!

Eat when your hungry. Don't Starve yourself. Just Don't eat when your not. Exercise everyday (do some sports or just take a walk). Drink a lot of water. How can I lose weight without risking my health?
well dont go on a starve diet and actually 132 is good for your height but if you want to lose weight just eat a lot of fruit and veggies but limit the fruits and eat small portions of lean meat. do like 10 min workouts 2-3 times a day by runing or walking or cardio. it is a scientific fact that 10 min work outs burn off morn fat that 30 or 40 min workouts by tricking your metablolism. and try runin 10 mi 3,4,or 5 times a week. im 5'5 and weigh 90 lbs by using this diet program. it works easily but if i were you i would go to 118-127lbs dont go any less
At your age, you could be putting on muscle which weighs more than fat. If you want to lose weight, just watch what you eat and exercise. How can I lose weight without risking my health?
Its great that you are trying to get a hold of your weight before it sky rockets out of control. The best thing to do is to stay active, whether it be playing sports (consistantly) or just taking daily walks or jogs or joining a gym. Try to steer away from the junk food and stick to a healthy low fat low carb diet. They recommend that you eat 5-6 smaller meals a day, be sure to space them out 2-3 hours apart. Make sure to drink lots of water, eliminate the sodas and fruit juices and use something like crystal light if you must have something in your water. Stay with the leaner meats also, fish, chicken and turky. You will do great. Exercise and a healthy balanced diet go hand in hand.
You sound like a good healthy weight for your height. If you are determined to lose weight, this worked for me at age 52, so it should work for you twice as good at your age. Cut out fat, salt, sugar, dairy and egg yolks. I mean totally cut all this out. You will only have to do it for a few weeks. I lost 25 pounds in five weeks doing this. It's hard, but there is a lot of sugar-free, salt-free stuff on the market now. There is even a sodium-free salt substitute. I am much slimmer than people half my age because I did this diet, and it works.
Don't starve yourself again. Ever.

Starving yourself slows down your metabolism and sends you into "Uh oh" mode I guess you could say.

Your body says "Uh oh, food isn't coming, so next time it is I better store it as fat / long term energy incase this happens again".

Work out, run, join a gym, lift weights, swim, eat RIGHT and HEALTHY. DON'T starve yourself.

A vacation only happens everyh once in a while. If you do it right, eat right portions of food and healhty food like veggies and fruits and good meat, then you're good.
