I am going to NYC for the first time in two weeks. What are some of the best things to do there? Are there any tips you have about restaurants or ways to save money? What can I expect there, as far as the people, weather, etc?New York City Tourist?
Bring your walking shoes. It's the best way to get around. Be ready for tired feet at the end of your trip. Also, you can buy passes for the subway (Metro Card, I think it's called) for a certain number of days. That's also a great way to get around.
Take a coat. It'll probably be cold, but be ready for moderate weather, too. I'd check the forecast just before you head out.
The people are OK. They pretty much go about their business as you go about yours.
Central Park is so nice! I'd plan on spending a day to go there and to one or two of the nearby museums.
Check out the pastry shops in Chinatown (yum!) one morning for breakfast.
I got a Fodor's guide book at the bookstore before I went. It has lots of information and maps.
Staten Island Ferry is free and a good way to see the water and get a view of Lady Liberty.
The view from the Empire State Building is worth it.
Well, there are a lot of things you can do like:
-circle line tour (2 hrs 1/2 for $25 I belive)
-rockefeller centre at night
-times square
-empire state building
-visit the statue of liberty
The weather is getting cooler so make sure you have your jacket and scarf if you go out at night. As for the people, we're nice people but you should always keep a close eye on your things.
Good look on your trip and I hope this helps!New York City Tourist?

DON'T stand in the middle of the sidewalk, looking up. We will run you over!
Some of the people who you will see talking aloud are crazy, and are talking to themselves; the rest are using hands-free cell phone mics. There is NO way to tell the difference between the two.
If we like you, we will be rude to you. If we don't like you, we will be especially rude. We are just a bunch of rude bastards, here.
Taxis do NOT cost $250 to take you from Kennedy Airport to your hotel in Manhattan. Only a tourist who doesn't mind looking like one will pay that much. (Do NOT pay more than
$1.50 for a street hot dog. They are not sanitary enough to be worth that much.)New York City Tourist?
It is cold here..really cold. And the people are indifferent, they will not care one way or another about you. Some may mock you a bit if you relaly look like a tourist tho, but just ignore them. Don't trust anyone. And if you want to save money, don't take taxicabs, and don't buy those touristy sweatshirts on the streetcorners taht say "I heart NY". Hit Central Park, go iceskating.
just walk around
but I really love going to is Maddame Tussauds Wax museum its great
check out:
little italy!
time square
theres so many stores and stuff to do just consider walking by ways of transport....easy and cheap
if u must u can take a taxi but i really think its so easy to just flag a taxi
a favorite restaureant of mine is Mickey Mantles...considering im a yankees fan lol
but even just affordable places like the hard rock..if u just walk around time square there are so many restaurants there......but what u could do is eat in little italy...delicious!!lol
good luck..have fun!
p.s. the people there are always on the go..they may bump into u and not even notice lol as far as weather its been pretty cold the last few days here..we just got snow lol so dress warm!
What have you always heard about and wanted to see? Make your list. Of course the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Bldg., Chrysler Bldg., Rockefeller Center (it's fun to watch them tape The Today Show %26amp; maybe you can ice skate there later in the day), and a real must is Times Square. If you are able to see a Broadway show that would be very memorable. Transportation is where you save your money... The subway is inexpensive but hotels are very expensive but very small. The restaurants range in all prices. If you like pizza - you have to have it in New York. Lots of street vendors with really good food. You are going during Christmas shopping season.... lots of people do that. Weather probably will be cold but just keep a look out for the forecast. You will meet all types of people so just absorb it all. They also have free tickets to tapings of New York tv shows. They are free but you better get a move on that if you are interested. Have Fun!
walk the streets everything there is impeccable
