What to visit in NYC?

I was thinking of spending 1 week in New York during the summer and I wanted to know what are the typical monuments, buildings, museums, streets or even shops or restaurants that you think a tourist must visit... I know there are a lot of things to see and do in NY but since I've never been there before and since I don't have a lot of time to visit it would be a shame not to visit the most important things. Thank you in advance :)What to visit in NYC?

The Statue of Liberty %26amp; The Empire State building for monuments. Canal street in Manhattan, Jamaica avenue in Queens and Fulton ave. in Brooklyn for Shopping. Central park for an outdoors feeling. The Staten island ferry would be a nice ride and view of the city. The trains are always an interesting adventure. Yankee stadium is a big New York thing to do. Times Square is something to see definitely, the hustle and bustle and lights are a spectacle to be seen, especially in the night. Food is subjective depending on taste, be adventurous and you should find tonnes of food places you like.....they say NY has the best pizza so I guess you could start with that. Oh and the bridges are nice to look at and have great views. What to visit in NYC?
