I really don't want to work in Jersey But if that is where i have to start so be it...
I'm Almost 18 in a little less than a month. I will graduate in about 2 weeks from high school and start at Columbia University in the fall majoring in physics. I am really interested in being a waiter.. but alot of restaurants here in nyc require like 2 years experience.. Even Chain Restaurants.. And i am inexperienced.. But i have been reading up on how to be a good waiter.. I hear good looks may do the trick.. and i have Good looks and a smile to die for.. but, it doesn't work... lol... I've done the whole retail thing ... and i want to try something different I Really want to be a waiter I'm not really sure why..
Does any one know a good place where i can start ??... Or any managers hiring ?.. any stories?... should I bring a resume? not that there will be much on it.. pertaing to what i want to do but you know that should make for a good look.. I have also been told to lie and say i have experience.. but if i do then get hired they will expect me to know what to do... and i will not and then there will be a whole mess... I also been told to try to stay away from stores that are family owned or on ran by a certain ethnic group.. I am a mix of Caribbean and Spanish.. ( being alittle on the darker side ) that there may be a bit of racistum or alot of attention drawn towards me that will make me feel uncomfortable .. but i can speak Spanish and Japanese... But Japanese restaurants wont do.. I really can't stand the smell of Fish Constantly .. its one of those smells that make me feel sick after a while... so Please Please PLEASE help me.. I'm Trying to get hired before my birthday...How can an inexperienced person start a Waitering Job in NYC?.. or Maybe Jersey city or Newark ? (Plz Read)?
You got to have connections. Go into places and ask to talk to the managers. Experience or no experience - it's not what you know, it's who you know.
