Alright, so I'll be going to NYC soon for two weeks, where I'll be staying in Manhattan. Now I'm sure there's great food available pretty much everywhere (especially in Manhattan), but I'm not sure what I have to try and where.
So can anyone give me a suggestion or two of some restaurants or delis that serve dishes that I just HAVE to try during my visit to NYC? Money isn't a huge factor, though I'm not saying I'm looking for haute cuisine I'll have to pay a ridiculous sum of money for.
Thanks in advance!Food in New York City?
Pastrami Sandwich on rye try Katz's Deli
Bagel with a shmear and maybe some lox try Zabar's
Pizza, just a slice almost any pizza place (but not 2 bros dollar slices)
If you have a strong stomach get a hot dog from one of the dirty water hot dog carts.
Have an order of Maduros (fried sweet plantains) from a spanish place
Pasteles and/or empanandas also avaialble at any one of the spanish carribean places
Jamaican patties sort of like an empananda but spicier
Try an exceptional steak at Peter Lugers or The Old Homestead

My friend, in regards to places to eat in New York City. There are thousands of restaurants in the Five Boroughs of New York City. Depending on your taste, your budget and your preferred location, may I recommend the link below.
http://www.menupages.com/ -- MenuPages.com is the one of the best website on the Internet. It included menus with prices, as well as restaurant reviews.
Good luck and Bon appetit!Food in New York City?
Go to Canada for better quality food.
One of my favorite delis is the Roxi Deli in Times Square. I highly recommend the mushroom barley soup and any of the sandwiches, which are huge, as are the cheesecake slices. You might try the Carnegie Deli near Carnegie Hall, but it has the exact same menu with the exact same prices, but a huge line to wait in to get in. However, the Carnegie does offer the "Woody Allen," which is a humongous corned beef and pastrami sandwich best shared by two. I think the Roxi has something similar but it goes by a different name. For dinner, try Carmine's on either 42nd Street or the East Side location not far from Central Park. It is awesome Italian food served family style. When we're hoofing around and don't want to deal with lines and waits, we also treat ourselves to pushcart cuisine. You can find a huge variety of food, including fantastic ethnic cuisine, from New York's pushcart vendors. You may also wish to experience Sardi's, if only to ogle the caricatures of great Broadway legends that cover the walls. I couldn't honestly tell you what the menu consists of, because everyone goes to see the sketches and doesn't give a flip about the food!
Of course, you will want to poke into some of the cool little hole-in-the-wall ethnic places that are scattered all over the city, and you must have a couple slices of New York pizza, available, again, from many little places often tucked off the beaten path.
Have a great time in New York!
